Globe Artichokes

At HolmSelect we love to grow the magnificent organic globe artichoke.

Globe artichokes have become a firm favourite of staff and customers alike of HolmSelect. They are an extraordinarily architectural crop and despite being commonly grown in warmer Mediterranean climates, they are able to flourish here. An annual planting policy ensures supply, although the cold December of 2010 did wipe out the overwinter crop, making the crop of 2011 a very late one. As we stand in the field on 1st February 2012, all the overwintered crop has survived.

Varietes are carefully selected for their head shape and succulent leaves. Madrigal, a carefully selected F1 hybrid, is known for its excellent flavour and is also much sought after as an architectural-type plant. Lancelot and Emerald are two other excellent F1 varieties. in 2012 we are introducing a new purple F1 variety - Opera.
